About the Business Research Consortium

History and Mission BRC

The Business Research Consortium (BRC) is a scholarly association of business professors founded in 2006 by scholars representing five AACSB-accredited business schools in WNY. The mission of the BRC is to collaborate and foster pioneering research in business including the scholarship of teaching.

Annual Conference and Proceedings

Since its founding, the BRC has hosted an annual conference attended by hundreds of scholars from more than forty institutions. These annual conferences are usually held on the campus of a sponsoring business school. On occasion conferences are held at the Niagara Falls Convention Center as a convenience to Canadian scholars. Conferences were held virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic but returned to face-to-face format in 2024. The year 2024 marks the 19th annual conference.

Independent Journals

Aware of the growing problem of predatory fees for publishing, in 2010 the BRC partnered with Cambria Press to propose new cross-disciplinary business journals that would not require a publication fee or subsidy. In 2011 these journals were launched by Cambria Press as 100% independent, non-subsidy, and continuous publications. Although the editorial and review board include BRC professors, papers are reviewed, accepted, and published from scholars who may have no relationship with the BRC. Consistent with accreditation standards, the journals meet or exceed the required directory listings, index services, and commercial distribution standards of established, top-tier, high-quality journals.

Student Encouragement

The BRC encourages faculty-student research. At its annual conference, faculty and students present joint research, which is also accepted in the proceedings. In addition, faculty-student research can be submitted for consideration a special journal issue that is published annually.
