Author(s) : Mustafa Canbolat, Kyongsei Sohn
In this study we explore several potential influence factors for the willingness to be vaccinated through the use of Google Trends key word search data and other government provided state level statistics. We find evidence of some socio-cultural and political factors being influential. Further, we discuss possible economic consequences of vaccine hesitancy to a state. Finally, given that each state has a unique set of economic characteristics and a dominating industry, we identify the industries that may be adversely affected by vaccine hesitancy or lower vaccination rates.
