Title: Does the Case Study Method inform Academic Success for all Students?
Author(s) : Patrick O'Meara, Dr. Lei Han
To test if case study is an effective teaching method for Cost Accounting, this study investigates the relation between the case method and students’ performance. Students’ class grade, GPA before entering the class, gender, and ranking in the class are collected. Based on a sample of 75 students taught by the same instructor, after we control gender and GPA before entering the class, we find that case method contributes to academic success. Also, students in the lower class-ranking benefit more from the case method than their stronger peers, and female students respond better to the case method than the male students.
