Title: Assimilating Societal Impact into the School of Business

Author(s) : Barry Friedman, Efstathios Kefallonitis, Kathleen Locklear

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has revised its guidelines to strongly emphasize societal impact. This strategic initiative has manifested itself in a cornucopia of ways. These include the Responsible Research for Business and Management (RRBM) project, extensive surveys of business schools, curriculum changes, and partnerships among universities, organizations and communities. Using the STAR model (Galbraith, 2002) of organizational design, this paper explores how one School of Business plans to create further positive societal impact that aligns with its mission, vision and objectives. Best practices, challenges and opportunities are explored.
