Title: Student Perceptions of Service Learning Outcomes: Does Length of Project Matter?

Author(s) : Isiah Brown, Lucille Pointer, Gleason Kim

Service learning has been empirically shown to impact student learning outcomes in multiple disciples and countries. In prior studies, students are often involved in service-learning projects which last for multiple weeks or a semester. This study reports on student learning outcomes from an intensive daylong service-learning project which had a significant shorter time frame compared to previous studies. The SErvice LEarning Benefit (SELEB) (20 and 12 item) scales, were used to assess students’ perception of major learning outcomes (interpersonal, practical, citizenship and personal responsibility skills). Overall, students perceived significant benefits on all constructs as measures by the scales. The study explores the differences in learning outcomes by gender, age, and business disciplines.
