Title: Solving the New, Big Problems and Avoiding Business as Usual: Transforming Business Education

Author(s) : Edward Garrity

Changing people’s thinking is key to solving climate change and our emerging global problems. Underlying our citizen mental models is our basic conception of economic activity. For over two hundred years people have viewed economics and business activities as the necessary transformation of raw materials into products and services to enhance our quality of life and lift people out of poverty. However, at the same time, these business activities have also altered the natural environment and caused harm to people and planet. If we are to avoid the worst consequences of climate change and un-sustainability global society will need to make fundamental changes in our systems of governing. These necessary global transformations must begin with changing how citizens think about business, public policy, and the larger natural world.
