Title: Teaching Education How to Incorporate College and University Financial Statements into the Accounting Curriculum

The purpose of this paper, is to outline assignments and exercises for utilizing audited financial statements as a teaching tool within the college accounting classroom. Assignments are designed to be utilized in Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting and Governmental Accounting courses Financial Statement exercises were developed utilizing audited reports from the Federal Single Audit Clearinghouse. Topical coverage of these assignments includes, basic to advanced financial statement terminology, financial statement analysis, management decision making, and government specific topics. This paper will walk through various approaches to apply these exercises within a classroom setting. Exercises were designed to be completed either individually or within groups. Desirable learning outcomes from these exercises include, increased understanding of accounting terminology, increased analytical skills, and increased understanding of governmental accounting are discussed. Future research will evaluate the and measure student performance based on completion of the exercises.
