Title: The Role of CO2 Emission Disclosures in Last-Mile Transportation Equipment Decisions

Author(s) : Guy Gessner

The quantity of last-mile carbon emissions generated are a function of the transportation equipment used to travel the last-mile. One set of transportation equipment options is controlled by the customer if they decide to go to the store to shop or pick up an online order. A second set of equipment options is controlled by the seller when the decision is made as to who makes last-mile deliveries to customers. For many transactions the seller involved has a carbon emission reporting obligation to regulatory bodies. This paper discusses if advanced knowledge of carbon emissions is likely to influence customer decisions regarding pick up or delivery on each transaction and if the costs of carbon disclosures are likely to impact seller decisions as to delivery options offered to customers.
